FORUM ON ENDING NEWBORN DEATHS



"Ensuring Every Baby Survives"


Earlier today Save the Children funded by Johnson & Johnson organized  this forum (Ending Newborn Deaths) at AIM Conference Center Manila (ACCM). The said event has been attended by different personalities, representative, of different sectors such as Department of Health, CAMP, PLAN, USAID, UN, WHO, LGUs, POGS, DPPS, FPSNbM, PSORHN, PSHB  to tackle how to ensure that every baby survives.

Expert has gather to provide us with insightful morning on how can we ensure that every baby survives.

   Mr. Ned Olney - Country Director - Save the Children International - Philippines.
                Started the forum by providing us a peek on how tremendous this problem that we are facing.

   Uzma Syed, MD, MPH, MSC - Newborn Health Advisor - Save the Children USA
                Presented the Save the Children report Ending Newborn Deaths and Newborn Health:

   Amado Parawan, MD - Health and Nutrition Advisor - Save the Children International - Philippines
                Presented the current status of Newborn Health in the Philippines

   Anthony Calibo, MD, DPPS - Medical Specialist IV, Focal Person for Newborn Care Program,
                                                 Family Health Offices, Department of Health
                As one of the panel reactors Dr. Calibo talks about numerous solutions that the Department of Health has been doing in order to address the newborn mortality in the country. Dr. Calibo provided deep insight on how can we address this problem by using resources that are available and accessible to every Filpino, and lastly he motivated (because I am sure I have been motivated) every child advocate within us.

                                                                Kangaroo Mother Care Foundation Philippines, Inc.
                Dr. Uy taught us the importance of implementation of Kangaroo Mother Care, on how KMC is not just being done simply to promote mother-and-child bonding rather KMC is being done based on multiple research that has been gather and being done to ensure that KMC will be utilize to its maximum potential.

   Sophie Angeles, RM - Midwife, Caloocan City Health Office
                 Ms. Angeles provided us a peek of what does a midwife face in the number 1 largest barangay in the county. She bravely shared with us her numerous experience in practicing her profession and her devotion in providing care to our fellow countrymen.

Match with Ms. Ana Santos (Columnist, Rappler) wit, this morning has been interesting and informative.
