Registered Nurse
What is a Registered Nurse?
A Registered Nurse is a title given to an individual by a governing body or institution after successfully meeting it's mandated requirements.
How does one become a Registered Nurse?
Depending on the country, state, or province.
As a licensed nurse in three countries, I'll be sharing with you the process that I took in order to be licensed on those countries.
- Philippines
To be a Registered Nurse in the Philippines, based on R.A. 9173, the following must be met:
- Be a citizen of the Philippines, or a citizen of a country which permits Filipino nurses to practice within its territorial limits,
- He/she is of a good moral character,
- A holder of Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a recognized (by the proper government agency) institution; and
- Pass the Nursing Licensure Examination
- Saudi Arabia
For the purpose of this entry, I'll be only writing the process that I took:
- Be a licensed nurse from his/her country of origin,
- Has at least a year of working experience,
- Undergone validation of necessary documents (dataflow), and
- Pass the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties Nurse Prometric Exam
- United States of America
For the purpose of this entry, I'll be only writing the process that I took:
- Apply to the State of your choosing, provided that you will meet the necessary requirements mandated by the state's board of nursing. I applied in the State of Texas.
- Have your nursing education and license validated. Mine was validated by the CGFNS as it is required by Texas Board of Nursing.
- Submit your finger print. (Again required by the State of Texas)
- Take the Nursing Jurisprudence Examination (this is part of the requirement of the Texas Board of Nursing).
- Once completed, apply for eligibility to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination.
- Pass the NCLEX
Note: This entry is based only on my memory, as such further research and reading is recommended. 😀
