Thoughts
A. Do you think that
children and adults with mental disorders have a place in the regular class
set-up or should they be enrolled in a special school? Explain.
It depends on a lot of factors, but I believe
that children or adults who have mental disorders do have a place in a regular
class set-up. Mental disorders has been viewed as organic matters, others view
it simply on what happen inside the head of the patients, others also view it
as a product of all human experiences that somehow lead to dysfunctional ego.
It is not contagious although study shows that it can be inherited, still it is
not contagious like flu, chicken pox, or cough and cold, although some studies
has shown it can be share between two people still it entails time and a
different kind of bond.
The problems that I am
seeing is that (1) What is the mental disorder of the student? (2) Is the patient is still on therapy? If he is what is the prognosis? (3) Is the
patient ready for the class? (4) And what is the recommendation of his
therapist? If all entails a GO signal then I don’t see any problem that can
hinders the student entering a regular class.
Now that the patient is clear let us then evaluate if
the class, teachers, or the whole school are ready for him? Keep it in mind also
that having a student who has a mental disorder entails his ailments or disease
to be put in confidentiality so he can have a regular student life. Is the
teacher ready? Is he already equipped with all the know how and what to do in
dealing with the student? If he is then it is another GO signal for me.
Let me reiterate again that
mentally disorder patients do has a place in a regular class it just entails a
matter of preparation.
