Caring for the Beginnings of Life
Neonatal Resuscitation Program
The neonatal resuscitation program is specifically designed course for health care professionals handling newly born infants.
They apply primarily to newly born infants undergoing transition from intrauterine to extrauterine life, but the recommendations are also applicable to neonates who have completed perinatal transition and require resuscitation during the first few weeks to months following birth.
As a nurse working in a complex area, we handle patients from womb to tomb, specifically operating room, labor and delivery room, and neonatal intensive care unit. It is but important that we undergone NRP training. From labor and deliver nurse, to scrub or circulating nurse, we also act as NICU nurse. In the NICU we handl cases from level 1 to level 3, and of course we also catch the baby deliver either via NSD or C-section.
Approximately 10% of newborns require some assistance to begin breathing at birth. Less than 1% require extensive resuscitative measures (intubation, chest compression, and/or medications) to survive.
The training is paid by the hospital I am affiliated with, the training was held at UP-Philippine General Hospital by the Department of Pediatrics, Section of Newborn Medicine last April 22, 2014. It was a one day training compose of dicdactum, examinations, and return demonstrations. At the end of the day if one is able to accomplished all the requirements e.g., pass the exams and the return demonstration, he/she will be given an ID/certificate valid for three years.
The training fee is Php 2000.00, pay the registration fee early at least two weeks prior to the date of training. Coordinate with the contact person for the said venue, slots are limited to early (40) registrants. Below is the 2014 NRP Schedule.
